How to Make a Landing Page in WordPress

Landing pages on WordPress or any website, for that matter, are a staple in marketing. Although logic dictates your home page should be the landing page, that isn’t always ideal. Homepages have several elements that can draw visitors’ attention away. Landing pages, on the other hand, have a straightforward purpose — get the visitor to click on a link, purchase a product, sign up for a mailing list, subscribe to a service, or simply visit another page on your website. To achieve that, you must learn how to make a landing page in WordPress. Let’s begin.

1. Make a landing page using Blocks in WordPress (Gutenberg Editor only)

This method is ideal for beginners and anyone who needs a simple solution and has a WordPress version 5.0 and later. Thus, if all you need is a simple page with a contact form, social media links, a promotional image/video, or just an announcement, do the following:

1. Log in to your WordPress Admin Section.
2. Install a WordPress theme if you haven’t.
3. In the sidebar on the left-hand side, click on Pages, then Add New.
4. Tip. Expand the right sidebar and look for an option that mentions “Page Template”, likely under “Page Attributes”. The theme you chose may come with one. If so, select one and start editing it.
5. Start creating your own landing page by clicking the + icon in the top left corner.
6. Browse the Blocks section for elements such as Image, Video, Code, List, Heading, Paragraph, and anything you may need.

Pro-tip. Switch to the Patterns tab. Select the type of block pattern to download a group of community-created blocks. Click the block then Replace above to customize it for your needs. Pay special attention to these blocks: Contact, Call to Action, Subscription, Cover, Media & Text, and Social Icons.

7. Move over to the Block tab in the sidebar on the right-hand side to alter extra block-related settings.
8. Once you’re done, click on Update or Publish in the top right corner. Your page is now live, but won’t be the first thing users see.
9. To fix that, click on Appearance then Customize in the left sidebar of the Admin Section.
10. In the sidebar on the left, expand Homepage Settings.
11. Under “Your homepage displays” select A static page.
12. Select the page you just created from the drop-down menu under “Homepage”.
13. Click the Publish button above.

2. Use a page builder WordPress plugin

Are you using any of the best WordPress plugins for page building? If you, it’s all but guaranteed they have a landing page template. Even if it isn’t so, they provide a plethora of options for making a page from scratch. One of the examples of the former type is Elementor, so we’ll use it for demonstration. Follow these instructions to create a landing page via a page builder WordPress plugin:

1. In the WordPress Admin Seciton sidebar, click on Landing Pages under “Templates”.
2. Click the Add New Landing Page button.
3. Elementor Editor opens. Select whether to start from scratch or customize one of many templates in their library.
4. If you opt for the first option, Elementor will ask you to pick primary colors and font. The page will be void of any elements.
5. Add header, footer, background image and video, contact area, and anchor, button, column, image, icon text editor, and navigation menu widgets, among plenty available elements. Elementor Blocks has premade call to action, FAQ, services, social media, and features elements, too.
6. Customize any on-page element with 3 tabs – Content, Style, and Advanced.
7. Once you’re ready, click on Update in the bottom left corner.

3. Creating landing pages via a dedicated WordPress plugin

Don’t feel like installing a page builder? You may also need something with more options and is tried and tested, lightweight, optimized, and SEO-friendly. Well, like in most cases, you should seek a specialized WordPress plugin. Follow these steps to create a landing page using a dedicated WordPress plugin:

1. Download, install and activate a WordPress plugin for landing pages.
2. Note. For demonstration, we’ll use SeedPod, the top landing page plugin on the WordPress repository. Although they have a paid version with far more features, we’re not affiliated in any way nor do you need it for a basic creation.
3. Expand the left sidebar in the WordPress Admin section.
4. Click on Pages under “SeedProd”.
5. Pick a design under “Choose a New Page Template”. The selection will be limited compared to the paid version.
   Note. You can also begin with a Blank Template and start building from scratch.
6. Once you made your choice, an “Enter your new page details” window pops up.
7. Enter a title for your landing page and select which URL it will use.
8. Click on Save and Start Editing the Page.
9. You’ll now enter a SeedProd Editor, more specifically the Design option in the top menu.
10. Begin to shape up your landing page from the template.

Tip. The procedure is similar to Block Editor and Elementor. You can click to add, edit, or delete a block, drag them to change positions, or split them into columns. Adding images, lists, videos, and buttons is equally easy and done through the options under the Blocks tab on the left-hand side. You can also check the Sections option. It contains all commonly used landing page elements: call to action, header and footer inserts, FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions), features list design, and even a basic contact form. Options listed under Standard are for free users. The Advanced section houses several features usually reserved for paid customers using SeedProd Premium.

11. Optional. Once you’re finished with the design, switch to the Connect option in the menu at the top. This tab lets you link your landing page with email marketing tools (Active Campaign, GetResponse, Sendy, iContact, Constant Contact, etc.), analytics tools (Google Analytics, for example), security (Recaptcha, for instance), or 3000+ apps supported by the Zapier Webhook automation.
12. When you’re finished with making changes, click the Save button in the upper right corner.
13. Click on Save as Template if you aren’t ready for it to go live yet.
14. Click on Publish to activate your WordPress landing page.
15. If you chose the latter option, click on See Live Page.
